The Startup Magazine with Yoav Farbey, Eduardo Burnao, Rio Hodges and Spencer Neff.
When: 2015-2016
The Startup Magazine is a publication on a mission to be a leading resource for the startup community. As the Editor of the publication and its first employee, I worked closely with Founder, Yoav Farbey. It was my responsibility to deeply understand our readers, develop and execute on a strategy to deliver content that is timely, relevant and engaging across web, mobile and tablet. I also collaborated with our designers to ensure we could deliver our content in a way that was distinctive and memorable. Whilst there was an abundance of writing well suited to those who are new to the startup community, those with more experience (1-3 years into their journey) lacked a publication that catered to their problems and interests.
Out of this learning, I dedicated my time and that of our editorial team to curating and dissecting information from a range of experts. Our writing has included interviews with design pioneers like Fitbit designer, Gadi Amit; analytical insight on how to design for behavioural change from Dr Dan Lockton at the Royal College of Art; and practical guidance into how access capital at different stages of the fundraising cycle from Martin Afshari-Mehr, VC at early stage investment firm Episode 1. Each issue aimed to give insight into projects that are breaking new ground and to provoke thought on what needs to be changed in a space that is constantly changing.
